TUNIS, Feb. 4 — The vertebrae fossils of a 15-meter- long tail of a dinosaur have been discovered Sunday in Bir Amor in the governorate of Tataouine in southern Tunisia, the official TAP press agency reported on Monday.

The tail, belonging to a gigantic herbivore dinosaur believed to have lived some 110 million years ago, is part of the rest of a discovery of some dinosaur fossils made in the same area in March 2011, TAP said.

Sunday’s discovery, made some 500 km south of the capital, was led by a team of researchers from Tunisia’s national mining authority, Italy’s Bologna University and experts from Poland.

In 2010, fossils with large footprints of both herbivore and carnivore dinosaurs were found in the desert town of Chenini, near Tataouine.

The first discovery of dinosaur fossils in Tunisia dates back to 1955.
