KIEV, April 23 — Ukraine is interested in expanding collaboration with the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) over regional and global issues, President Viktor Yanukovych said here Tuesday.
During his meeting with Wolfgang Grossruck, acting president of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly, Yanukovych said Kiev, which currently holds the presidency of the OSCE, is disposed to carry out constructive dialogues with other member states.
“We consider Ukraine’s chairmanship in the OSCE as a real opportunity to contribute to the strengthening of security and stability in the region,” Yanukovych said.
For his part, Grossruck noted that Ukraine has always been an active participant in all the processes taking place in the framework of the OSCE.
“Ukraine is a very active member of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly. The Ukrainian delegation has played a leading role in our assembly. And now we are very happy about Ukraine’s chairmanship,” Grossruck said.
Based in Vienna, capital of Austria, the OSCE is the world’s largest regional security organization, consisting of 57 members from Europe, Central Asia and North America.
Ukraine took over the rotating OSCE chairmanship from Ireland on Jan. 1, 2013.
