KIEV, Feb. 21 — Ukraine, Poland and Lithuania would create a joint peacekeeping team to promote international cooperation, Ukraine’s Defense Ministry said Thursday.

“We hope to complete the formation of the military brigade by the end of the current year,” First Deputy Defense Minister Alexander Oleinik told reporters here.

The team will support peacekeeping and humanitarian operations under the United Nations, the North Atlantic Treaty Organization, the European Union, or multinational coalitions in accordance with the U.N. Charter and the principles of international law.

The new peacekeeping force will be composed of three battalions, one from each country.
